Edge & Base is a specialist ski and snowboard workshop on Ardmore Street. Machine stone grinding, hand edge tuning, hot wax, base repairs and binding mounts — all done on Wintersteiger equipment by techs who ride what they tune.

All prices include GST. Drop off before 10 am for same-day collection on standard tunes. Race prep and base repairs may take 24–48 hours.

02 · How we tune

Six steps, one Wintersteiger

  1. Inspect

    We check base flatness on a true bar, note edge condition and measure binding DIN against your weight, ability and boot sole length.

  2. Stone grind

    The Wintersteiger Sigma RS grinds a fresh structure into the base — fine for cold Cardrona powder, coarse for wet Treble Cone spring snow.

  3. Edge work

    Side edge at 88° for all-mountain, 87° for race. Base edge at 0.5° or 1° depending on feel. Hand-finished with a diamond stone.

  4. Detune

    Tip and tail contacts are detuned to prevent hooking — more detune for freestyle, less for carving.

  5. Hot wax

    Iron-on all-temp or race fluoro, scraped and brushed with nylon, then horsehair, then a final polish pass.

  6. Final check

    Bindings release-tested on the bench. Every ski gets a tag with the work done, the structure cut and the wax temp range.

Our rental fleet is small and curated — we stock what we ride. Season: 15 June – 15 October. Overnight and multi-day rates on request.
