Still Drift Float Studio — Nelson

Sensory-deprivation float studio · central Nelson

Still Drift is a two-pod float studio on Bridge Street. You lie in 30 cm of body-temperature salt water — 500 kg of Epsom salt — in a light-proof, sound-proof pod. Sixty or ninety minutes of nothing. No gravity, no light, no sound.

We also offer infrared sauna sessions, guided breathwork meditation, and a small recovery lounge with herbal tea and journals.

How floating works

  1. 01Shower, put in earplugs, step into the pod.
  2. 02Close the lid (or leave it ajar — your choice). The water is 35.5 °C, the same as your skin.
  3. 03You float effortlessly on the salt. Your muscles release. Your mind quiets.
  4. 04Soft music fades in at the end. Shower again, dress, rest in the lounge.

04 · Testimonials

What our guests say

I came in with a three-day migraine. By the end of ninety minutes it was completely gone. I have been back every fortnight since.

Hannah Rowe, Nelson, floats since March 2025

I am a triathlete and I use the float after long training blocks. The salt takes the inflammation out of my legs faster than ice baths ever did.

Sam Kereama, Richmond, monthly 90-min float

The first twenty minutes my brain would not shut up. Then something shifted. I came out feeling like I had slept for ten hours. Extraordinary.

Margot Ellis, Stoke, first-time floater

05 · FAQ

Common questions

Is floating safe?

Yes. The water is only 30 cm deep and so salty you cannot sink. You are in control of the lid at all times — leave it open if you prefer. The water is filtered between every session through a UV and hydrogen-peroxide system.

What if I am claustrophobic?

Try the i-sopod — it has no lid. Or leave the DreamPod lid cracked 10 cm. Many people who thought they would panic find the darkness calming once they settle in. You can open the lid or turn on the light at any time.

What should I bring?

Nothing. We provide towels, earplugs, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. You float without clothing. Bring a hairbrush if you have long hair.

Can I float if I am pregnant?

Many pregnant women find floating very comfortable, especially in the third trimester — the buoyancy takes all the weight off your joints. We recommend checking with your midwife or obstetrician first.

How often should I float?

Most of our regulars float once a week or once a fortnight. The benefits build over multiple sessions. First-time floaters often notice the biggest shift by the third float.

What are your cancellation terms?

Cancel or reschedule up to 12 hours before your session at no charge. Late cancellations and no-shows are charged at full price — the pod is prepared and the slot cannot be resold.
