Farm gate café · Matakana

Seasonal food from the paddock to the plate.

We grow most of what we cook on two acres of Matakana clay. The menu changes with the garden, the hens lay the eggs, and the neighbours bring the rest. No food miles, no pretence, just honest cooking.

    04 · Our farm

    Two acres of honest food.

Paddock Lane Kitchen sits on a working smallholding at the end of Tongue Farm Road. The kitchen garden, heritage fruit orchard and henhouse provide the backbone of every menu. What we cannot grow, we source from farms within fifteen kilometres.

    How we close the loop

    Compost everything
All kitchen and garden waste goes back into the beds. Zero food waste to landfill since opening.
    Seasonal menu only
We do not import out-of-season produce. If it is not growing, it is not on the menu.
    No single-use plastic
Takeaway containers are compostable sugarcane. Bring your own jar for honey and preserves.
    Rainwater collection
30,000-litre tank feeds the garden through summer. Bore water backup only.
