I switched to Ledger & Co eighteen months ago and my GST has not been late once. I used to dread it every two months — now I forget it happens.

How It Works

Four steps from enquiry to done.

  1. Free discovery call

Twenty minutes on the phone. We look at your current setup — software, bank feeds, filing dates, pain points — and give you a ballpark fee on the spot.

  2. Onboarding month

We collect access to your bank feeds, accounting software and IRD myIR. If your books are behind, we quote a one-off catch-up separately. Most catch-ups take two weeks.

  3. Monthly cycle

Transactions are reconciled by the 10th. GST is filed by the 15th (or the 28th for monthly filers). Payroll runs on your existing schedule. You get a one-page summary by email.

  4. Year-end handoff

We prepare your IR3 or IR4 and hand it to your accountant (or ours, if you would like a referral) in time for the 31 March deadline. No surprises, no last-minute scramble.

What Clients Say

From the Bay of Plenty

I run a plumbing business with two vans and a part-time admin person. Ledger & Co took over our books in February and I have not logged into Xero since. The monthly summary tells me everything I need to know in one page.
Hemi W. · plumber · Papamoa
As a sole trader, I was doing my own GST and dreading every return. Sarah at Ledger & Co set me up with proper bank feeds and now it takes her twenty minutes every two months. My fee is less than what I was losing in missed deductions.
Reena P. · florist · Mount Maunganui
We switched from a big accounting firm because they charged $600 a month and never returned my calls. Ledger & Co charges less, does more, and Sarah picks up the phone every time. It is not even close.
Mark and Jo D. · café owners · Tauranga CBD
I opened my studio mid-year and had no idea how to handle GST registration, payroll for one part-time employee, or what ACC levies I was supposed to pay. Ledger & Co sorted it all in one onboarding session. I just teach yoga now.

FAQ

Questions before you call

Do I need to use Xero or MYOB?
We work with both. If you are starting from scratch, we recommend Xero because the bank feeds and GST filing are faster. If you already use MYOB and it works, we will keep it. The Sole Trader and Small Company packages include the Xero subscription at no extra cost.
Can you handle payroll?
Yes. Payroll is included in the Small Company and Growing Business packages. For sole traders who take on a casual employee, we add payroll for $50 + GST per month per person. We file pay-day returns with IRD and handle KiwiSaver and ACC deductions.
My books are months behind — can you catch up?
Absolutely. We quote the catch-up as a one-off fixed fee before we start. Most are $400–$1,200 depending on volume. Once we are current, the monthly cycle takes over.
Do you do tax returns?
We prepare the IR3 (sole trader) or IR4 (company) working papers and hand them to your accountant to file. If you do not have an accountant, we can refer you to one of two Tauranga firms we work with. We are bookkeepers, not chartered accountants, so we do not sign off on financial statements.
What happens if I go over my transaction limit?
Nothing dramatic. We reconcile the extras and let you know at the end of the month. If you are consistently over the tier limit, we suggest moving up rather than paying overages — it is almost always cheaper.
How do I get started?
Book a free twenty-minute discovery call. We will talk through your setup, give you a ballpark fee and, if it sounds right, send you an engagement letter. Most clients are onboarded within a fortnight.
